  An  inscription,  monogram,  or  cipher,  containing  the  place  and 
  date  of  publication,  printer's  name  etc.,  formerly  placed  on 
  the  last  page  of  a  book. 
 
  The  colophon,  or  final  description,  fell  into  disuse,
