  Emulgent  \E*mul"gent\,  a.  [L.  emulgens,  p.  pr  of  emulgere  to 
  milk  out:  cf  F.  ['e]mulgent.  So  called  because  regarded  by 
  the  ancients  as  straining  out  the  serum,  as  if  by  milking, 
  and  so  producing  the  urine.]  (Anat.)
