  in  the  plural,  {fetters}.] 
  1.  A  chain  or  shackle  for  the  feet;  a  chain  by  which  an 
  animal  is  confined  by  the  foot,  either  made  fast  or 
  disabled  from  free  and  rapid  motion;  a  bond;  a  shackle.
