[OE. fers, fiers, OF fier, nom. fiers, fierce, savage,
cruel, F. fier proud, from L. ferus wild, savage, cruel;
perh. akin to E. bear the animal. Cf {Feral}, {Ferocity}.]
1. Furious; violent; unrestrained; impetuous; as a fierce
wind.
