  1.  (Glass  Making)  The  material  of  which  glass  is  made  after 
  having  been  calcined  or  partly  fused  in  a  furnace,  but 
  before  vitrification.  It  is  a  composition  of  silex  and 
  alkali,  occasionally  with  other  ingredients.  --Ure.
