  Gar  \Gar\,  n.  [Prob.  AS  g[=a]r  dart,  spear,  lance.  The  name  is 
  applied  to  the  fish  on  account  of  its  long  and  slender  body 
  and  pointed  head.  Cf  {Goad},  {Gore},  v.]  (Zo["o]l.)
