  A  small  fishlike  animal  ({Amphioxus  lanceolatus}),  remarkable 
  for  the  rudimentary  condition  of  its  organs.  It  is  the  type 
  of  the  class  Leptocardia.  See  {Amphioxus},  {Leptocardia}.
