  appoint  by  last  will  to  bequeath  as  a  legacy,  to  depute:  cf 
  OF  legat  legacy.  See  {Legate}.] 
  1.  A  gift  of  property  by  will  esp.  of  money  or  personal 
  property;  a  bequest.  Also  Fig.;  as  a  legacy  of  dishonor
