Subsist \Sub*sist"\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. {Subsisted}; p. pr &
vb n. {Subsisting}.] [L. subsistere to stand still stay,
remain alive; sub under + sistere to stand to cause to
stand from stare to stand: cf F. subsister. See {Stand}.]
