  1.  A  mass  of  fluid,  especially  of  a  liquid,  having  a  whirling

  the  center  of  the  circle,  and  to  draw  in  towards  the 
  center  bodies  subject  to  its  action  the  form  assumed  by  a 
  fluid  in  such  motion;  a  whirlpool;  an  eddy.
