Slav \Slav\, n.;pl. {Slavs}. [A word originally meaning,
intelligible, and used to contrast the people so called with
foreigners who spoke languages unintelligible to the Slavs;
akin to OSlav. slovo a word slava fame, Skr. [,c]ru to hear.
