  humble,  put  an  end  to  AS  [=a]lecgan;  [=a]-  (cf.  Goth.  us-, 
  G.  er-,  orig.  meaning  out)  +  lecgan  to  lay;  but  confused  with 
  old  forms  of  allege,  alloy,  alegge.  See  {Lay}.]
