  1.  (Rom.  Antiq.)  The  demand,  by  the  consuls  or  tribunes,  of  a 
  law  to  be  passed  by  the  people;  a  proposed  law  or  decree. 
 
  2.  (Eccl.)  Litany;  supplication.
