  right  of  seizure.] 
  1.  A  sanctuary  or  place  of  refuge  and  protection,  where 
  criminals  and  debtors  found  shelter,  and  from  which  they 
  could  not  be  forcibly  taken  without  sacrilege. 
 
  So  sacred  was  the  church  to  some  that  it  had  the
