  Any  fish  of  the  family  {Pleuronectid[ae]};  esp.,  the  winter 
  flounder  ({Pleuronectes  Americanus}).  The  flatfishes  have  the 
  body  flattened,  swim  on  the  side  and  have  eyes  on  one  side
