[AS. ?lepute.] (Zo["o]l.) a A European fish ({Zoarces viviparus}), remarkable for producing living young; -- called also {greenbone}, {guffer}, {bard}, and {Maroona eel}. Also an American species ({Z. anguillaris}), -- called also {mutton fish}, and erroneously, {congo eel}, {ling}, and {lamper eel}.
