An ornamental European shrub ({Ligustrum vulgare}), much used in hedges; -- called also {prim}. {Egyptian privet}. See {Lawsonia}. {Evergreen privet}, a plant of the genus {Rhamnus}. See {Alatern}. {Mock privet}, any one of several evergreen shrubs of the genus {Phillyrea}.
