So called in allusion to the grunting noise made by them on being taken from the water. ] (Zo["o]l.) Any one of several species of California sci[ae]noid food fishes, especially {Roncador Stearnsi}, which is an excellent market fish, and the red roncador ({Corvina, or Johnius saturna}).
