  1.  Of  pertaining  to  or  taught  by  Hermes  Trismegistus  as 
  hermetic  philosophy.  Hence:  Alchemical;  chemic.

  The  alchemists,  as  the  people  were  called  who  tried 
  to  make  gold,  considered  themselves  followers  of
