Pertaining to or designating, an acid, {C5H6O4}, which is obtained as a white crystalline substance by decomposing aconitic and other organic acids. From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) [web1913]: Pyrocitric \Pyr`o*cit"ric\, a. [Pyro- + citric: cf F. pyrocitrique.] (Chem.) Pertaining to or designating, any one of three acids obtained by the distillation of citric acid, and called respectively {citraconic}, {itaconic}, and {mesaconic} acid.
