Guilt \Guilt\ (g[i^]lt), n. [OE. gilt, gult, AS gylt, crime;
probably originally signifying, the fine or mulct paid for an
offence, and afterward the offense itself and akin to AS
gieldan to pay E. yield. See {Yield}, v. t.]
